About the Retreat
We all experience pain and stress in our lives – if we know how, we can manage it better.
Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction teaches you the skills to mobilize your mind and body so you can take charge of your life and cope more effectively with everyday stress, anxiety, chronic pain and depression.
In this retreat, specialist mental health therapist and trainer John Julian and Buddhist monk Venerable Freeman offer a reinterpretation of Buddhist scripture and practice into everyday activity – a guide for life and its inherent stresses.
This Buddhist retreat is open to and beneficial for people in all walks of life. It will be especially helpful for people who struggle with stresses in life, chronic pain or anxiety. You do not have to be Buddhist or make a commitment to Buddhism – any Buddhist prayers or practices in the retreat will be optional.
This three-day retreat introduces Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR), its basis, theory and practice. The guided practice sessions are interspersed with MBSR teaching and discussion, training on Compassionate Communication and Buddhist teachings on the aspiration to overcoming suffering – The Four Immeasurables. Learn about the cultivation of The Four Immeasurable qualities: love, compassion, joy and equanimity.
This residential retreat commences at 6pm on Friday 9th March and concludes at 2.30pm on Monday 12th March 2012. It includes three night’s accommodation in shared twin rooms and all meals including morning and afternoon teas (quality vegetarian). Please advise any special dietary requirements.
About Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
MBSR is a structured approach to mindfulness meditation that teaches the mind to pay attention to the present. It is about the development of moment-to-moment non-judgmental awareness for improving physical and emotional well-being. While its roots are in the mindfulness of Buddhism, MBSR is a secular approach that utilizes a range of techniques.
